the episode begins with sanders finding a debutant dead in an alley. sanders questions a few local people, including a jealous uncle, a rich gambler, and a football player. finally the breakthrough comes when grissom finds some dna from a pool of spit. sanders goes back to the group and finds it was actually a jealous uncle the whole time, whom they had questioned before. grissom says "If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried." and the episode fades to black.
